Animals and plants are disappearing at an alarming rate. People everywhere however rely on wildlife and biodiversity-based resources to meet their needs: from food to medicines, fuel, housing and clothing. Even to our soul, for us to benefit from the beauty that Nature brings to us and our planet, and which are essential to our physical well-being and mental balance.
With such perspectives in mind the United Nations decided to create a World Wildlife Day, with the purpose of alerting the men and women of today that we must work together and ensure that ecosystems are able to thrive and that plant and animal species will exist for future generations.
World Wildlife Day is celebrated every year on March 3rd but its inspiration must continue far beyond that day, connecting people with the natural world around us. Therefore, many countries around the world organize events with the purpose of raising awareness about the importance of wildlife and the need to protect endangered species.
If your school, library or association has an event scheduled to celebrate World Wildlife Day, please do not forget to share it on the social media and other internet channels. A few activities with children may include writing poems, making drawings, visiting parks, zoos and aquariums and meeting native animals, theatrical performances and, obviously reading inspiring books.
May I suggest a few children’s activities you find at www.barry4kids.net?
